Top Fall Lookouts in Grey County

There’s something special about fall in Grey County.

As the leaves begin to turn, the landscape transforms into a mix of brilliant reds, oranges, and golds. Rolling farmland, apple orchards, forests, lakes, and the Niagara Escarpment all take on a completely different character, and some of the best places to experience it are from above.

If you’re looking for a scenic drive, a peaceful place to stop and take in the view, or a new spot to explore this fall, here are some of our favourite lookouts and scenic viewpoints across Grey County.

Lake Eugenia

Lake Eugenia

We’ll start in the Beaver Valley at Lake Eugenia.

The shoreline and surrounding hills are beautiful at any time of year, but autumn brings an entirely different atmosphere. The changing trees create a colourful backdrop along the water, while the lake itself adds a sense of calm to the landscape.

It’s the kind of place where you can pull over, take a few minutes to enjoy the view, and simply slow down.

For those who love the outdoors, the Eugenia area also offers access to hiking, the Bruce Trail, and nearby Eugenia Falls, making it easy to turn a quick scenic stop into a full afternoon of exploring.

Beaver Valley

Next, head along Grey Road 13 toward the Beaver Valley Lookout.

From this elevated viewpoint, the valley opens up below you, with layers of forests, farmland, and rolling hills stretching into the distance. In the fall, those layers become a patchwork of colour.

On a clear day, you may even spot the Beaver Valley Ski Club in the distance — a small reminder that the landscape you’re enjoying in autumn will soon be covered in snow.

It’s a wonderful example of what makes the Beaver Valley so special: the scenery changes dramatically with the seasons, but there’s always something worth looking at.

Old Baldy Beaver Valley

Old Baldy Lookout

Just outside Kimberley, Old Baldy is one of Grey County’s most recognizable escarpment destinations.

The lookout sits high above the Beaver Valley, offering expansive views across the surrounding countryside. In autumn, the forested slopes become a spectacular display of colour, making this a particularly memorable time of year to visit.

The area is also part of the Bruce Trail system, making Old Baldy a great choice if you want to combine a scenic lookout with a fall hike.

There’s something about standing along the escarpment and looking across the valley below that really puts the scale and beauty of Grey County into perspective.

Epping Lookout

Epping-John Muir Lookout

Further along Grey Road 7, Epping-John Muir Lookout offers another impressive perspective over the Beaver Valley.

The view stretches across farmland, orchards, the valley and toward the surrounding escarpment. There’s also a picnic pavilion and Bruce Trail access, making this an easy place to turn a scenic drive into a leisurely fall outing.

The lookout is also connected to the history of naturalist John Muir, who spent time in the area. An interpretive plaque at the site shares more about his connection to the valley.

In the fall, however, it’s the view that tends to steal the show.

Irish Mountain Lookout

Irish Mountain Lookout

If you’re looking for a view that combines countryside, orchards, Georgian Bay and the escarpment, Irish Mountain is hard to beat.

Located near Meaford, this scenic lookout provides a sweeping view across the surrounding landscape. In the distance, you can see Nottawasaga Bay and the Niagara Escarpment, while the countryside below is dotted with farms and apple orchards.

There’s also a picnic pavilion, making Irish Mountain an ideal place to pack a lunch, bring a warm drink and spend a little time enjoying the scenery.

It’s one of those places that reminds you how much variety there is within Grey County — from waterfront to farmland to escarpment, all within the same view.

Scotch Mountain Lookout

Scotch Mountain Lookout

Just across from Irish Mountain, Scotch Mountain offers another beautiful vantage point over the countryside.

From here, the view reaches toward Meaford and Georgian Bay, with the rolling landscape unfolding below.

This is a particularly nice stop if you’re exploring the area by car and want to experience some of the quieter backroads and viewpoints that make Grey County so enjoyable in the fall.

Sometimes the best fall-colour experiences aren’t the busiest attractions. They’re simply the places where you can pull over, take a breath and enjoy the view.

Blue Mountain Lookout

Blue Mountain Lookout

And, of course, no Grey County fall lookout tour would be complete without a stop at the top of Blue Mountain.

Located along Grey Road 119, Blue Mountain Lookout provides a bird’s-eye view toward the Village at Blue and Georgian Bay. On a clear day, the view can extend toward Wasaga Beach and even Christian Island.

It’s an especially impressive place to see the changing colours of the escarpment and surrounding countryside.

But the view is only part of what makes this area special. Blue Mountain is a true four-season destination, with skiing and snowboarding in winter, hiking and outdoor activities in the warmer months, and beautiful escarpment scenery throughout the year.
