The holiday season has officially arrived in Grey County, and with it comes all the charm, sparkle, and small-town magic our communities are known for. From glowing light displays to historic celebrations and cozy village strolls, this is truly one of the most enchanting times of the year to live in (or visit!) our beautiful region.
Every December, we at Sea & Ski Realty love sharing the local traditions that make Grey County feel like home. This year, I'm highlighting some of my personal favourite holiday events that capture the warmth, joy, and festive spirit of our communities.
Whether you’re looking for family-friendly fun, a romantic winter date night, or simply a way to soak in the season, here are our top picks for Grey County holiday events you won’t want to miss.
Festival of Northern Lights – Owen Sound
There’s nothing quite like strolling through downtown Owen Sound during the Festival of Northern Lights. Each winter, the Sydenham River and surrounding streets come alive with more than 400 dazzling light displays, transforming the area into a glowing winter wonderland.
Perfect for families, date nights, or quiet evening walks, this beloved Grey County tradition sets the tone for the season. The shimmering lights, festive music, and riverside views make it easy to get lost in the magic of Christmas in Grey County.
If you’re looking for a holiday outing that captures pure seasonal joy, this one is a must-see.
Holiday Magic in Blue Mountain Village
Next on the list is Blue Mountain Village, where winter charm meets festive celebration. During the holidays, the Village becomes a picture-perfect scene filled with sparkling lights, snow-covered streets, and a lively holiday atmosphere.
Enjoy a walk along the cobblestone paths with hot chocolate in hand, browse the local shops for unique gifts, or take in live entertainment and seasonal music. Skating through the forest under twinkling lights feels straight out of a Hallmark movie, and it’s right here in our own backyard.
Whether you’re spending the day with family or planning an evening out, Blue Mountain Village holiday events offer something for everyone.
Moreston by Moonlight – Grey Roots Museum & Archives
If you’re looking for a truly nostalgic holiday experience, Moreston by Moonlight at Grey Roots Museum & Archives is a highlight of the season. As the candlelit paths guide you through the historic village, you’re transported back in time to a simpler, quieter Christmas.
Carolers fill the air with music, horse-drawn wagon rides clip-clop through the snow, and traditional treats warm your hands and your heart. It’s a beautiful reminder of the community spirit and heritage that define Grey County lifestyle.
This event is as cozy, charming, and memorable as the holidays get.
Holidays in the Highlands – Grey Highlands
We can’t talk about holiday traditions without celebrating one close to home: Holidays in the Highlands. Grey Highlands transforms with festive lights, artisan markets, local vendors, and small-town cheer that welcomes everyone who stops by.
It’s more than a holiday event, it’s a celebration of the people who make Grey Highlands such a special place to live. You’ll find festively decorated homefronts, uniquely charming businesses, fun community gatherings, and friendly faces everywhere you go.
This is the kind of community spirit that truly embodies life in Grey County.
