My Favourite Winter Activities in Grey County | How I Truly Enjoy the Season

If you’ve ever found yourself counting down the days until spring, you’re not alone. But living in Grey County has taught me something different: winter can actually be one of the most rewarding seasons of all if you embrace it the right way.

I’m Karen Cox with Sea & Ski Realty, and winter is honestly one of my favourite times of year here. The pace slows, the landscape transforms, and there’s a beautiful balance between outdoor adventure and cozy moments indoors. Here are a few of the ways I truly enjoy winter in Grey County.

Blue Mountain skiing

Skiing at Blue Mountain & the Village Lifestyle

Winter in Grey County wouldn’t be complete without Blue Mountain.

Whether you’re skiing, snowboarding, or simply soaking up the atmosphere, there’s an energy on the mountain that’s hard to match. But for me, the experience doesn’t end on the slopes, because the village is half the fun.

From the shops and live music to the glowing lights and outdoor fire pits, it feels like a mini winter getaway without ever leaving home. It’s vibrant, social, and full of life, even on the coldest days.

Snowshoeing

When I’m craving something quieter, I head for the trails.

Snowshoeing in winter is peaceful, grounding, and incredibly beautiful. The snow muffles sound, the trees stand tall and still, and there’s a calm you can’t quite explain until you experience it yourself.

It’s one of my favourite ways to slow down, reconnect with nature, and enjoy Grey County at a gentler pace.

Fire pit and hot chocolate

One of my favourite winter rituals is surprisingly simple.

Bundled up outside, standing by a crackling fire pit, hot chocolate in hand, this is winter comfort at its best. The contrast of the cold air on your face and the warmth of the fire is something special.

These are the moments that make winter feel intentional, not rushed.

And then there are the days when winter reminds you to slow down completely.

A good book.
A crackling fireplace.
Snow quietly falling outside.

Those quiet afternoons are just as meaningful as the adventurous ones. Winter gives you permission to rest, and I’ve learned to embrace that.
